Beef Stroganoff

Ingredients

300-400g lean beef strips.
1 medium onion, sliced.
1 green pepper, sliced.
1 punnet brown mushrooms, sliced.
3 cloves garlic, crushed.
125ml sherry.
3 heaped tsp of meat gravy powder.
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg.
250 ml cream (or creme fraiche if preferred).
Coarse salt and crushed black pepper
Cooked Jasmine rice or buttered noodles for serving.


1. Brown the beef strips in some olive oil in a heavy-based pan or wok, then set the meat aside.

2. Place the vegetables in the pan and fry until softened, adding the garlic last.

3. Return the meat to the pan and add the sherry, cooking over medium heat for 2 minutes.

4. Add the gravy powder and stir in well.

5. Turn down the heat and add the cream and nutmeg. Allow the cream to heat through and the sauce to thicken.

6. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.

7. Serve with cooked rice or noodles.
